From Vision to Reality: Dubai’s Path to Excellence in AI-powered Government Services
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), recently unveiled the establishment of the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI). This new initiative aims to support government departments in implementing cutting-edge technologies across key sectors.
The Dubai Centre for AI has set an ambitious goal of training 1,000 government employees from over 30 government entities in the application of generative artificial intelligence. Additionally, it plans to initiate numerous pilot projects, enhance government services, increase the productivity of government employees, and support more than 20 local and global advanced technology startups. The state news agency WAM reported these objectives.
Sheikh Hamdan emphasized Dubai’s commitment to rapidly adopting new artificial intelligence and future technologies in alignment with the global technology innovation landscape. This vision aligns with the directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, to position Dubai as a global leader in preparing for emerging opportunities and challenges and shaping the future.
Sheikh Hamdan stated that Dubai’s government aims to become the world’s best in deploying artificial intelligence within its various entities. The establishment of the Dubai Centre for AI represents the first step toward achieving this goal and developing future services that keep pace with rapid technological advancements. He encouraged employees across all Dubai government entities to leverage generative AI tools to enhance productivity and optimize government services.
His Highness further expressed the aim to witness practical applications of generative AI technologies in the government sector. Given the rapid pace of technological development, Dubai aims to be equally swift in testing and harnessing these advancements for the benefit of society. The goal is to have new AI-powered government tools that demonstrate clear impact and tangible results. By harnessing the power of AI, businesses in the UAE can streamline operations, improve efficiency, and deliver exceptional products and services to customers. The initiative aims to facilitate the adoption of AI technologies, provide support to businesses, and foster a collaborative environment for AI-driven innovation. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, attended the launch event alongside other dignitaries. The Dubai Future Foundation, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Dubai Media Council, and Dubai Digital Authority will oversee the implementation of the Dubai Centre for AI’s objectives and outcomes in collaboration with relevant authorities. This includes developing legislation related to AI applications, attracting top global technological solutions, and nurturing national talent.
The establishment of the Dubai Centre for AI is part of the wider efforts to apply the latest AI technologies in various sectors, in accordance with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s directives. Reports indicate that the generative AI sector is expected to grow from $10 billion in 2022 to $110.8 billion by 2030, at a compound annual growth rate of 34.3 percent.
The Dubai Centre for AI will enhance the performance of the government sector in several ways. For example, it will employ AI to conduct simulations that analyze the impact of new policies and legislation, predict outcomes of different scenarios, evaluate program effectiveness, and support complex decision-making processes. The Centre will also enhance the development of government services by predicting user needs and preferences, establishing streamlined communication channels for public services, and utilizing data analysis tools to identify trends and insights for informed decision-making. Generative AI will play a crucial role in ensuring the delivery of superior government services tailored to the needs of Dubai residents.
As a collaborative platform, the Dubai Centre for AI will bring together government, private, and academic sectors to develop AI applications and introduce innovative services and products that incorporate the most advanced technologies.
